Regency Technologies is proud to announce that all five of its facilities nationwide have earned the highest US industry certifications necessary to protect the environment, health and safety and security during the electronics recycling process.
R2/RIOS is the combination of two stringent sets of guidelines: R2, Responsible Recycling Practices, and RIOS, the Recycling Industry Operating Standard®. The result is an exacting standard for responsible electronics reuse and recycling and being recognized in the market as a Certified Electronics Recycler®. Electronics recycling is a fast-growing industry that creates high-paying, green jobs and boosts the US and global economy.
Regency Technologies’ latest certifications have been earned at its Atlanta, Chicago and Lakeland, Florida, facilities effective January 28, 2011, and have been certified by SGS, an ANAB accredited third-party auditor. Combined with its certifications to these same standards at its Twinsburg and Solon, Ohio, locations, Regency Technologies now has more R2/RIOS-certified facilities than any other electronics recycler worldwide.
The company’s two Cleveland area operations were previously certified to the R2/RIOS, ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 standards in May 2010.
“Regency has always been and remains committed to providing the highest-quality recycling services to our clients,” said Jim Levine, President of Regency Technologies. “Obtaining the certifications of an independent, third-party is critical for Regency. The R2/RIOS standards were tailor-made for our industry and were developed by the most critical stakeholders in the industry including the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), industry groups and electronics and information technology equipment manufacturers.”
“Regency Technologies is a leader in the electronics recycling industry and has invested significantly to ensure that recycling is done the right way — responsibly and safely,” said Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) President Robin Wiener. “ISRI works hard to help companies earn this significant distinction.”
RIOS was developed by ISRI, the nation’s largest electronics recycling association. The program is the first quality, environmental and health and safety (QEH&S) management system developed specifically for the recycling industry. R2 was the first recycling standard specifically targeting electronics recycling. It was developed and supported by stakeholders including the EPA, major computer OEMs such as Lenovo and Dell, the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), state and local governments and ISRI. R2 includes general principles and specific practices for recyclers disassembling or reclaiming used electronics equipment, and its strict “Reuse, Recovery, Dispose” hierarchy of methods ensures that electronic scrap is properly handled.
ISO 14001 is a globally recognized environmental management system through which an organization minimizes how their operations negatively affect the environment, ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and other requirements and continually improves its positive environmental performance. ISO 9001 is a well established quality management system designed to help organizations ensure they meet the needs of customers and other stakeholders.
